In Attempt I, Agnes Questionmark presents herself in the form of a pregnant hybrid being. As the subject of a scientific experiment, the artist’s body is contained in an artificial placenta inside an operation room surrounded by liquid and fluid bags. The doctor, a performer, initiates the birth process by cutting the artificial placenta and discharging the liquid on the room’s floor. Soon after the first birth the doctor proceeds by incising the creature’s uterus to free her from what has developed inside. The newborns are causing a terminal condition into their mother, which soon will be dead. Once they are set aside, the doctor encloses the dead hybrid being into the cadaver bag.
This is a failed experiment, one of the many attempts that Agnes Questionmark is conducting with the intent of overcoming humanity. Here the idea of failure is significant, representing an act of resistant and the stubborn idealisation of reaching the impossible. The artist takes ownership of her evolution by transforming herself into this monstrous being that, as the mother of all organisms, becomes a symbol of the struggle for environmental equilibrium.
