Stream Machine is an underwater live-music performance by Anges Questionmark and Portamento that explores the possibilities of water, sound and technology to rethink gender and inter-species communication. The name of the project is borrowed from a water gun brand popular in the early nineties, as playful way to convey the image of a machine that instead uses water to “stream” music, but also as a mean to evoke the importance of sound as the main medium through which humans and marine animals alike have sensed the sea and communicated through it.
Agnes Questionmark and Portamento joined forces in 2018 when they embarked on an aquatic sound journey that saw them collaborating on many different occasions. From this moment onwards, the symbolisms and speculative narratives evoked in the works of Agnes Questionmark have very seldomly been silent, but were often complemented by the sounds envisioned for them by Portamento. Throughout these years, they have influenced each other and grown together, developing a common image and sound vocabulary mediated by water that bridges their practices in a fluid and immediate way.
